Owner of BYPC, Mary is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (Level 3),a Certified Stott Pilates teacher(All levels and all equipment), and a Certified Massage Therapist. Mary also has a B.A. in Pyschology and a M.S. in Biology. She started practicing yoga as a child with her mother in the 1970's. She was also a competitive gymnast and dancer until she was 22 years of age. Besides practicing yoga and pilates, Mary enjoys rock climbing and skiing in the Eastern Sierra.
Mary took her Iyengar yoga teacher's training with Kofi Busia and with Cathy Rogers Evans, both Senior Iyengar Yoga teachers. She has also studied with the Iyengar family (Guruji, Geetaji, and Prashantji) in India and continues to study with Senior Iyengar teachers. Besides being a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Mary is also a Certified International Yoga Therapist and RYT 500. She enjoys teaching everyone yoga, so that we may become firm in our body, steady in our mind, and have a delighted spirit. "Sthira sukham asanam."
Mary did her Stott Pilates training at the John Garey Fitness and Pilates Training Program in Long Beach, CA. This training program encompassed mat, reformer, cadallic, chair, barrels, and work with injuries & special populations in all levels (essential,intermediate, and advanced). She is fully certified in the Stott pilates method and is an Athletic Conditioning Specialist. She enjoys sharing her understanding of the body, breath, and mind connection through the teaching of pilates exercises with her students.
Mary was trained in various styles of massage and took most of her training from Twin Lakes College of the Healing Arts in Santa Cruz, CA, where she also taught massage for many years. She is certified as a Professional Massage Therapist and Natural Health Counselor through them. She is also certified throught the California Massage Therapy Council. Mary has also been studying Myofascial Release and Craniosacral Therapy with John F. Barnes. She is also continuing her studies with Lori Zeltwanger of Advanced Release Therapy. Her sessions focus on structural work using myofascial release and craniosacral work to release restrictions and holding patterns.
In the past 30 years Mary has developed a private practice and has also spent many years teaching yoga, pilates and massage classes and workshops. She enjoys helping people correct their posture, reduce their pain, heal from their injuries, and become more flexible in their
body and mind!
